Workwear Sizes: How to Read Size and Height

2 min read

Workwear is usually ordered for a whole crew or company at once, and a sizing mistake is costly: a suit that is tight in the shoulders or short in the sleeves will not be worn. Here is how to read the sizes on Sardoba Textile product pages and how to collect measurements correctly.

Size and height are two different numbers

For work suits the size is written as two pairs of numbers, for example "size 96–100, height 170–176".

  • Size (96–100) is the chest girth in centimeters. The suit is made for a person whose chest girth is within this range.
  • Height (170–176) is body height in centimeters. It determines the length of the sleeves, trousers and jacket.

The two numbers are chosen independently: a tall, slim person may have a small size and a tall height, and vice versa. That is why workwear always needs both measurements.

Please check the availability of specific sizes and heights for each model with a manager when ordering.

How to take measurements

Measurements are best taken with a tape measure over light clothing:

  1. Height: standing barefoot with your back to a wall, from the floor to the top of the head.
  2. Chest girth: around the fullest part of the chest, with the tape under the arms and level across the back. Do not pull the tape tight.
  3. For T-shirts and polo shirts: chest girth is enough, and the letter size (XS to 5XL) is chosen from it.

If a measurement falls on the border between two sizes, take the larger one: a T-shirt or warm clothing is often worn under a work suit, and a winter suit needs room for underwear.

How to collect sizes for a crew

The easiest way is to put all measurements into one table:

Name or employee ID Height, cm Chest girth, cm Model Size / height
Employee 1 178 98
Employee 2 172 106

You can leave the "Size / height" column empty: a manager will fill it in from the measurements. Send the table with your inquiry and include the model and color from the catalog.

In short

  • Size is chest girth, height is body height; you need both measurements.
  • Suits: from 88–92 to 120–124, heights from 170–176 to 182–188.
  • T-shirts and polo shirts: XS to 5XL; underwear sets: 80–84 to 136–140.
  • On the border between sizes, take the larger one.
